MHRA (Mossley Hill Residents' Association) remains dedicated to representing the local community in discussions about the site, advocating for a balance between the heritage of the campus and the practical realities of modern development. While we cannot guarantee specific outcomes, we will continue to consult with LJMU and local stakeholders to ensure the community's voice is heard throughout the process.
The I.M. Marsh Campus, located on Barkhill Road in Aigburth, was previously home to Liverpool John Moores University's School of Education, Leisure and Sport Studies and the School of Teacher Education and Professional Learning. The campus featured a range of facilities, including a sports hall, playing fields, and tennis courts, and has a history dating back to 1900, when it was established as the Liverpool Gymnasium College by Irene Mabel Marsh.
Originally based in Bedford Street near the city centre, the college moved to its Barkhill Road location in 1920, becoming officially known as the I.M. Marsh Campus in 1947. While the site is no longer in use by LJMU, its historical and cultural significance remains a point of pride for our community.

The future of the I.M. Marsh Campus has sparked discussion and concern among residents, particularly regarding the cumulative impact of various new projects in the area. Questions have been raised about whether the local highways infrastructure can support the anticipated changes, highlighting the importance of responsible and sustainable planning.
As part of our commitment to representing the voices of Mossley Hill residents, MHRA has been actively engaging with Liverpool John Moores University to ensure that our community’s concerns are heard and addressed.
In January 2025, MHRA representatives will meet with LJMU to discuss the latest plans for the I.M. Marsh site. This meeting is an important opportunity to advocate for development that aligns with the needs of our community while preserving the character of our neighbourhood.

Chairman's Update: June 2025. I spoke to Liverpool John Moores University spokesperson this week regarding bids received for the I.M. Marsh site. She said the University had had several bids and that they will be evaluated by a panel. I asked if the bids were for both sites (for sale purposes, the site has been divided into two) but she couldn't answer at this time.
